ABOUT US

Olsen Cottage is owned and looked after by Carol and Jim Foster,

who have lived themselves in the old village of Robin Hood’s Bay

since 1989. We have welcomed guests to Olsen Cottage since

1995 and aim for a cosy, homely atmosphere in keeping with the

character of the cottage. We have brought the facilities up to date

with a new shower room and kitchen units, complete with legible

oven controls, and we do try to keep the cost of a holiday

relatively affordable.

We are proud supporters of the community life of the village. Jim

is Chairman of the Lifeboat Branch, and ran the local Folk Club for

over 20 years. Carol ran Ashleys gift shop on Chapel Street for the

same length of time and has been involved with various village

organisations over the years. She currently serves on the Village

Museum committee.

Nelson, our cat, sadly passed away last year - a character, he will

be sadly missed in Silver Street by locals and visitors alike.

We like to ensure guests make the most of their visit to our very

special village, so please don’t hesitate to contact us for any

advice you need or recommendations you might find helpful.

The name Olsen Cottage derives from a 19th century Norwegian

ship’s carpenter, Oscar Magnus Olsen, who married his Captain’s

daughter, came to live in the village and served on the Lifeboat

crew. Jane Olsen bought the cottage in 1903 for all of £50 - if you

decide to book a visit, look out for the copy of the house deeds

framed on the kitchen wall. Look at the signatures. They tell a

story.
